Futures - Apprenticeships, Career Development
We run a range of groundwork apprenticeships, in particular general construction operations, plant operations, plant mechanics. Apprenticeships begin in September of each year. If you are interested in our apprenticeship programme please have a look around our web site at the works we carry out, our history, the projects we have undertaken and successfully completed and if this appeals to you then we look forward to hearing from you. We advise you to send a cover letter stating the area of construction/apprenticeship you are interested in, along with a current up-to-date CV. Cover letters and CV's are kept on file and reviewed around May/June of each year ahead of the apprenticeship starting in September.
Employee Career Development
As a registered member of Construction Skills we are actively involved in career development of all our employees. We draw up a training plan each year which identifies areas which we could improve within our business and liaise with our employees and Construction Skills to go forward with the development. Since registration in 2007 we have met and exceeded all targets identified in the training plan for each year.
The introduction of a Performance Development Review process has ensured that all employees are working towards acheiving personal objectives.
In addition, our company Managing Director, Nicky Gordon, sits on the board of Cumbria Construction Training Group. This ensures the company is at the forefront of training, development and competency locally.
‘Building a sustainable future for all…’
In achieving our goals of having an organised, skilled and competent work force we believe this builds a sustainable future for all parties. Our workforce is skilled; our company is healthy.
Innovation plays a large part in our thinking towards training. Machinery and various other tools are continuously advancing and we feel it is beneficial to implement these where we can if it is felt that they may benefit our workforce and the industry as a whole.
‘Innovation and Technology’
The importance of being innovative is profound. Innovation can only improve the efficiency of work, generally making the job in question easier, less stressful, quicker and therefore more profitable - a one way positive effect. By being innovative we are one step ahead, and one step ahead is where we want to be.
GBS employs staff in varying fields from office administration, labourers, skilled ground workers to machine operators, all of whom are supported by our in house training department and sister company NG Consultancy.
